Still No New Excitement At Excite

I'm afraid there still is nothing exciting to report at Excite.

That being the case, and so we don't all continue to feel ripped off by this fact, let us go over some of the basics of Excite submission.

Once you submit here, it will take 4 to 5 weeks for you to appear. They use description meta tags but not keywords.

Excite cannot navigate frames or image maps, so you will want to have text links into your site if you want the entire site indexed. The spider does, however, deep crawl.

Excite also provides results for AOL Netfind's and Netscape's search pages.

Excite's spider crawls the web every 3 weeks. If all your pages suddenly disappear from Excite, do not panic. This happens to almost everyone. They should reappear in 3 weeks when the spider visits your site again.

Excite can recognize synonyms, so it is wise to place main keywords with similar words in the text of your site.

Keyword stuffing, excess repetition and irrelevant are all considered spamming and will be penalized. And I can tell you from personal experience, they are capable of handing out severe penalties which are not easy to have reversed.

Site popularity adds to a site's relevance. In general, shorter pages where the keywords are prominent seem to do better in Excite.

Excite deletes identical pages from their database.
